宾江道 (Binjiangdao) and 和平路 (Hepinglu)
I went to Binjiangdao again today, and since I didn't make it to the end last time, this time I walked all the way to the end, where Binjiangdao meets Hepinglu. I love the wide, clean, paved avenues and the tons of shopping malls. Yes, it's very westernized and not authentic China, but sometimes you just need a taste of home. Seeing Starbucks around is so familiar and nice. Too bad the Starbucks here don't have my favorite Passion tea. Even seeing the super Wal-mart here was nice, even though I usually don't like to shop at Wal-mart in the U.S. At the end (or start, depending on which way you look at it) of Hepinglu is the 3-story Walmart with fresh produce, meat section, a food court, and tons of household items. It's pretty amazing to look at. I tried to find cereal here, and had almost no luck. I say almost because after 15 minutes of searching, I found 1 box called "yingyangpian" 营养片. Roughly translated, it means nutritional flakes. There were no Cheerios, no Kellogg's, no General Mills, just this no-name Chinese brand of "nutritional flakes." Good thing I brought one box of cereal from home. That should last me about 2 months, maybe I'll find more selection in Beijing.
